FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft-shell chamber different from a hard-shell?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — a measure of the pressure inside the chamber. At 1.4 ATA (about 5.8 PSI or 42 KPA) the chamber is pressurized above normal sea-level air, which is the entry-level range commonly used for at-home and wellness hyperbaric sessions.

This is a soft-shell chamber: the body is a high-strength TPU/polyester fabric with triple heat-welded seams and a 2-zipper door, held in shape by an internal steel frame so it won't collapse under pressure. A hard-shell (ASME-code) chamber is a rigid pressure vessel built for higher pressures. For 1.4 ATA wellness use, the soft-shell format keeps the chamber lighter, more compact, and easier to place in a home or small office.

How does it run — oxygen, power, venting, and setup?

A 10 LPM DeVilbiss oxygen concentrator supplies an oxygen-enriched atmosphere of roughly 95–96% purity, and the chamber's design helps prevent carbon dioxide buildup during a session. An oil-free air compressor with a 5-stage filtration system pressurizes the chamber, and a dehumidifier (included) manages moisture.

Total system power draw is 1560 watts and the full system weighs about 134 lbs. The chamber is designed to be operated solo, with dual inside/outside pressure gauges, redundant regulators, an emergency pressure relief button, a power-outage alarm, and an attendant buzzer. Video setup training and Quick Tips guides are included to walk you through assembly and first use.

Who is this chamber best suited for?

It's a single-person, sitting/vertical chamber — you sit upright rather than lie down — which makes it ideal for anyone who wants hyperbaric sessions but doesn't have room for a full lie-down unit. The inflated footprint is 55"L x 29"W x 65"H, so it fits in apartments, spare rooms, small offices, and professional wellness bays with limited space.

Note that the door opening is 18" wide by 40" tall and the design is built for seated entry, so it is not a walk-in or wheelchair-accessible chamber. If you specifically need a lie-down or wheelchair-ready format, a different chamber in the lineup would be the better fit — reach out and our team can point you to it.

Is hyperbaric therapy right for me?

That's a question for your physician. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally used to support recovery, circulation, and overall wellness, but it isn't appropriate for everyone, and individual results vary. It is not a substitute for medical care.

Always consult a qualified physician before beginning any hyperbaric protocol, especially if you have an existing medical condition. As an authorized Oxygen Health Systems dealer, The Recovery Outlet is glad to answer equipment and specification questions — but decisions about whether the therapy suits your health should be made with your doctor.
