FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft-shell chamber different from a hard-shell one?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — a measure of pressure. At 1.4 ATA, the air inside the chamber is held at roughly 1.4 times normal sea-level pressure (about 40 KPA above ambient). This is a common pressure point for soft-shell home and wellness chambers.

Soft-shell chambers like this one use a flexible, welded fabric shell with an internal steel frame to hold their shape, which makes them lighter, more portable, and able to run on a standard household outlet. Hard-shell chambers use a rigid acrylic or steel structure and are typically rated for higher pressures. This Borealis model is a soft-shell, vertical sitting-type chamber rated to 1.4 ATA.

How does it set up — power, oxygen, and operation?

The complete system runs on a standard 110V–120V household outlet (a 220V option is available) and draws about 1560 watts total, so no special electrical work is typically needed. The included oil-free air compressor pressurizes the chamber while the 10 LPM Devilbiss oxygen concentrator feeds 95%+ oxygen to your face mask or nasal cannula.

The chamber is designed to be operated by the user alone, without an attendant. Internal and external pressure gauges, an interior LED light, a two-way communication system, an emergency depressurization valve, a power-outage alarm, and an attendant buzzer are all built in. A finger pulse oximeter is included so you can monitor yourself during a session.

Who is this vertical sitting chamber best for?

It suits a single user who prefers to sit upright rather than lie down, and who wants a smaller footprint than a lie-down capsule — ideal for a home gym, spare room, or recovery studio. Inflated, it measures 61"L x 52"W x 66"H, with a 32"-wide by 52"-tall door.

Accessibility was a design priority: the U-style door is shaped for easier entry, an optional aluminum ramp is available, and the chamber is wheelchair-ready. If you specifically want to recline fully during sessions, a lie-down chamber may be a better fit.

Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy right for me?

That is a decision to make with a qualified physician. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally used to support recovery, circulation, and overall wellness, but it is not appropriate for everyone, and certain conditions can be contraindications.

Individual results vary, and hyperbaric therapy is not a substitute for medical care. Always consult a qualified physician before beginning any hyperbaric protocol, especially if you have any existing health conditions or concerns.
