FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft-shell chamber different from a hard-shell one?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — a measure of pressure. At 1.4 ATA (about 5.8 PSI / 42 KPA), the chamber holds you at roughly 1.4 times normal sea-level air pressure, the operating range commonly used in soft-shell hyperbaric chambers for home and wellness settings.

This is a soft-shell chamber: a flexible, food-grade TPU-coated polyester capsule reinforced with a hidden interior steel frame, rather than a rigid hard-shell vessel. Soft-shell chambers like this one operate at lower pressures (around 1.3–1.5 ATA) and are not ASME code compliant, which is typical for this category. Hard-shell chambers are rigid and can be rated for higher pressures.

How does setup work — oxygen, power, and venting?

The system uses an oil-free air compressor (160 LPM) to pressurize the chamber and a 10 LPM Drive DeVilbiss FDA-approved oxygen concentrator that supplies 95%+ oxygen through the included masks, headsets, and cannulas. It runs on standard 110v–120v household power and draws roughly 1460 watts total.

The chamber is designed to manage CO2 by venting through its pressure-relief system, and it includes internal and external pressure gauges, a dual-sided open/close valve, silent relief valves, an emergency pressure-release button, and a power-outage alarm. It can be operated by one person without assistance and run continuously.

Who is this chamber best suited for?

This is a lie-down (horizontal) chamber, 40 inches in diameter by 89 inches long, designed for a single user (stated capacity 1–2 persons). The 16-inch elevation platform creates a bed-like entry and exit, which makes it a strong fit for users with limited mobility who prefer not to climb in.

It is well suited to home use, wellness and therapy centers, chiropractic and sports-medicine settings, and personal relaxation routines. Note that it is a lie-down design — not a sitting, vertical, or walk-in chamber — and it is not configured for wheelchair roll-in entry.

Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy right for me?

Hyperbaric oxygen sessions are generally used to support oxygen delivery to tissues, circulation, recovery, and overall wellness. Individual results vary, and this chamber is not a substitute for professional medical care or a treatment for any specific condition.

Before beginning any hyperbaric protocol, talk with a qualified physician — especially if you have any existing health conditions or concerns. As an authorized dealer, The Recovery Outlet can help with product and setup questions, but decisions about whether hyperbaric therapy is appropriate for you should be made with your healthcare provider.
