FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft-shell chamber different?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — a measure of the pressure inside the chamber. At 1.4 ATA, the interior runs at roughly 5.8 PSI (about 42 KPA) above normal sea-level pressure. This is a popular pressure for at-home and wellness-center use because it's gentle while still raising the amount of oxygen available to the body during a session.

This is a soft-shell chamber, meaning the capsule is built from heavy-duty TPU-coated fabric rather than rigid metal. Soft-shell units are lighter, more portable, and well suited to lower pressures like 1.4 ATA. Hard-shell chambers are used for higher-pressure protocols. For home, clinic, and studio recovery at 1.4 ATA, this soft-shell design is the practical fit.

How does setup work — oxygen, venting, and power?

The system pairs a 10 LPM DeVilbiss FDA-approved oxygen concentrator (95% purity) with an oil-free air compressor. The concentrator feeds oxygen through the included masks and cannulas while the compressor pressurizes the chamber, and the interior oxygen is held at approximately 40%.

On venting: because the net oxygen percentage in the room itself is never increased, room oxygen levels stay at or below baseline. The built-in air conditioning system, integrated dehumidifier, five carbon filters, and a high-volume compressor work together to keep the interior comfortable and reduce CO2 buildup. A power-outage alarm and dual redundant pressure-release valves are built in, and the chamber can be operated by one person without an attendant.

Who is this chamber best for, and what's the size and layout?

This is a lie-down (horizontal) chamber measuring 36 inches in diameter and 89 inches long, so a single user can recline fully and stretch out — though there's room to sit upright inside as well. An internal metal frame makes entry and exit easier. It is supplied with two masks, headsets, and cannulas and is recorded as a 2-person capacity unit.

It's a good fit for personal home use, therapy and chiropractic centers, wellness centers and spas, fitness and sports centers, professional athletes and clinics, and sleep-chamber applications. Note that this is not a wheelchair-ready model; separate wheelchair-accessible chambers exist for that need.

Is hyperbaric therapy right for me?

That's a question for a qualified physician. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally used to support recovery, circulation, and overall wellness, but it isn't appropriate for everyone, and individual results vary. It is not a substitute for medical care.

Before beginning any hyperbaric protocol, talk with a physician about your health history and goals so they can advise whether this kind of therapy fits your situation. As an authorized dealer, The Recovery Outlet can help with product questions, but we don't provide medical advice.
