FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft chamber different from a hard-shell one?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — the measure of pressure inside the chamber. 1.4 ATA equals roughly 5.8 PSI or 42 KPa, which is the pressure level commonly used in soft-shell hyperbaric chambers for home and wellness settings.

This is a soft-shell chamber: an inflatable capsule made from 44 oz TPU-coated PET polyester rather than a rigid steel pressure vessel. Soft chambers operate at lower pressures like 1.4 ATA, are lighter, and are designed for home and wellness use. Hard-shell chambers reach higher pressures and are typically found in clinical environments.

How does setup, oxygen, and venting work — and do I need special wiring or firewalls?

No firewalls or special construction are needed. The chamber runs the interior at approximately 40% oxygen, and the net oxygen percentage in the room itself is never increased, because evacuated air redistributes at the same or lower than the starting room oxygen level.

The included oil-free compressor pressurizes the capsule while the FDA-approved 10 LPM DeVilbiss concentrator supplies 95%+ purity oxygen through a mask. A power-outage alarm, noise-reduction muffler, and integrated dehumidifier are built in, and the chamber can be operated continuously by a single person without assistance.

Who is this chamber best suited for?

This is a lie-down (horizontal) chamber, so you recline during sessions rather than sit upright. Its standout feature is size: at 36 inches in diameter and 89 inches long it comfortably fits two adults, or one adult and a child, which makes it a strong fit for households that want to share sessions.

The extra room also makes it well suited to larger individuals and athletes, and its continuous-operation design makes it popular for overnight use as a sleep chamber. Note that as a lie-down soft chamber it is not designed for wheelchair entry or seated use.

Is hyperbaric therapy right for me?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally used to support recovery, circulation, and overall wellness, but it is not appropriate for everyone and is not a substitute for medical care. Certain conditions can be contraindications for hyperbaric use.

Always consult a qualified physician before beginning any hyperbaric protocol so they can advise on whether it is suitable for your individual situation. As an authorized Oxygen Health Systems dealer, The Recovery Outlet can answer product and equipment questions, but we do not provide medical advice.
