FAQs

What does 1.4 ATA mean, and how is a soft-shell chamber different?

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute — a measure of pressure. At 1.4 ATA, this chamber holds about 5.8 PSI (42 KPa) above normal sea-level pressure, a gentle level commonly used in soft-shell, wellness-oriented hyperbaric setups.

Soft-shell chambers like this one are built from durable welded fabric over an internal frame rather than rigid steel or acrylic. They are lighter, easier to install at home, and operate at lower pressures. This model is a soft-shell chamber and is not ASME code compliant; higher-pressure protocols generally call for a hard-shell, ASME-rated unit used under clinical supervision.

How does setup, oxygen, and power work?

The system arrives with everything needed to run: the chamber capsule and steel frame, an oil-free 120 LPM air compressor that pressurizes the chamber, and a 10 LPM oxygen concentrator that delivers 95%+ purity oxygen through an included mask or nasal cannula while you're inside.

Total system weight is about 135 lbs across the components, and it runs on standard 110–120V power (roughly 1,560 W total; 220V is available). An included dehumidifier, multi-stage air filtration, internal and external pressure gauges, and an emergency relief valve operable from inside or outside round out a setup designed for safe, single-person operation.

Who is this chamber best suited for?

This model is built for accessibility. The wide 31" x 57" door and roughly six-foot interior height make it well suited to users who can't easily get down to floor level — including wheelchair users, who can roll directly in.

At 71" deep, it isn't limited to upright sitting: there's room to place a reclining chair or lie down, so it works for both shorter seated sessions and longer reclined ones. Capacity is rated for 1–2 individuals, making it a fit for home use, wellness centers, and similar settings where comfort and easy entry matter.

Is hyperbaric oxygen therapy right for me?

That's a question for a qualified physician. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is generally used to support recovery, circulation, and overall wellness, but it isn't appropriate for everyone, and certain conditions call for caution or medical supervision.

Individual results vary, and hyperbaric therapy is not a substitute for medical care. Always consult a qualified physician before beginning any hyperbaric protocol. As an authorized dealer for Oxygen Health Systems, The Recovery Outlet is glad to answer equipment questions, but we don't provide medical advice.
